Abande can be played on a hexagonal board providing 37 spaces or a 7 × 7 orthogonal board. The larger orthogonal board is due to the larger amount of possible connections: 8 instead of 6 for the hexagonal version.
Please note that pieces are placed on the intersections of the lines.

Alternatively you can always use an 8 × 8 checkers or chess board and cover two rows to get an appropriate Abande board.
